Many partially sighted people suffer from a lack of information about their surroundings or situation. Often they rely on the descriptions given by others, information which can be insufficient, ambiguous, or even actively misleading.

The careful use of different materials and spaces (which they have done at Perkin’s School for the Blind) is another way in which a person can determine the space they are in or what is around them with our having to rely on their visual senses. Echoes, sounds created by shoes and more can give audio cues of the environment as well as sound cues created by technology.
