Lullaby Factory was set up at Great Ormond Street Hospital to create a calming environment for patients. It is an art installation that also produces sound so those who can’t see it can still hear its presence. Lullabies from the installation can be heard by users pressing their ears against the pipes or by tuning into a radio station. This installation was not designed specifically for visually impaired users, but it brings about ideas of how city infrastructure could be tuned to help people identify where they are and how to get elsewhere, essentially creating a map of sounds.
